Lesson 3: Graphic Organizer
Goals and Objectives:
For this activity, each student will be creating two graphic organizers, which is a visual guide to facilitate learning by organizing thoughts and ideas. We will be working by ourselves to create a Venn diagram and a comparison chart in class. It will be used as an introduction to when we discuss why asexual reproduction results in offspring with identical genetic information and why sexual reproduction results in offspring with genetic variation. After finishing this activity, students will be able to understand that there are different ways organisms reproduce and pass their genetic information to their offspring.

Venn Diagram
In this activity, construct a Venn diagram to compare the similarities and dissimilarities between asexual and sexual reproduction. On the left, list the unique qualities pertaining to asexual reproduction. And on the right, list the unique qualities pertaining to sexual reproduction. In the middle, list what makes these two types of reproduction alike. Please refer to the example that has been provided for you below. You may use our class lecture and textbook. Your Venn diagram does not need to be constructed on the computer. A simple drawing will suffice. The grading chart has been included on this page to view.
Comparison Chart
After creating a Venn diagram, make a two row comparison chart to compare and contrast the advantages and disadvantages of asexual and sexual reproduction. An example has been provided for you. Again, you may use our class lecture and textbook. After completing the assignment, you may discuss your results with your group members.
